Bolt On Turbo Kits

The quest for the holy grail of power has been the aim of many guys and even gals and the market offers many options ranging from simple enhancements like spark plugs to hard-core modifications such as nitrous oxide, and forced induction like supercharging and turbocharging with the latter, the most popular. Many owners have opted for customized turbo installations but have faced numerous issues such as cracked turbo manifold and blown engines due to over boosting. These customized turbo installations usually take 1-2 weeks to install and require frequent come-backs to the workshop when the turbo manifold cracks due to the many weld joints.
A USA company based company is now offering bolt-on Turbo Kits for a wide range of cars such as Toyota Vios/Altis/Camry/Wish/Axio/Yaris, Honda Accord/Integra i-VTEC/Civic 1.6/1.7, Lancer, Mazda 3/5/6, Subaru TS, Opel, Swift 1.3/1.5 and others. The Turbo kits utilize a single piece cast-iron turbo manifold that are more expensive as they are used on stock turbocharged models and have less tendencies to leak or crack due to the weight & heat of the turbo. The turbochargers are sized according to the engine capacity and responses quickly without dreaded ‘turbo-lag’ associated with many of the local customized kits using second-hand WRX turbos.
Large turbos such as used on WRXs suffer from ‘turbo-lag’, meaning that your gains in torque & power starts at a higher rpm. This means that you will only experience the torque only when you rev-up the engine, usually from 3500rpm or higher. This will significantly impact on the low-end and hence, fuel consumption. Using a properly sized turbo based on the engine capacity, the turbo spools up faster allowing you to develop the gains in torque & power earlier, improving the acceleration without having to rev-up the engine. The impact on the fuel consumption will not be as significant as on setups with large turbos.
Improved drivability will be the essence of the Bolt-On Turbo Kit coupled with reasonable fuel consumption. This Turbo will kick in from 2000 – 2500 rpm giving you excellent performance very early in the rpm bandwidth. For example, the Vios turbo kit develops 1 psi at 2000rpm and 3-4psi at 3500rpm, and this means a very quick response in normal driving condition. Drivers need to ask themselves, do you want your torque to come in early at 2000rpm or later at 3500rpm as with large turbos? The Vios Turbo kit running at a very safe boost 0.5 bar or 7/8psi of boost was dynoed locally to show an output of 155bhp at the flywheel, a gain of almost 50bhp with the torque rising rapidly from 1800rpm and peaking early at only 3000rpm. As a rule of the thumb, 1 psi of boost will offer 7% power increases. The turbo kit is designed to bolt-on to your existing exhaust system.
